Overview
Role Purpose : The Actuarial Consultant is responsible for delivering high-quality actuarial work and client service for pension and insurance clients, primarily based in the U.S. and U.K. This role involves managing actuarial valuations, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting, while also contributing to client relationship development and mentoring junior staff.
How you'll make an impact
Technical Delivery
- Lead and supervise actuarial valuations and special projects for Defined Benefit pension plans.
- Coordinate and review actuarial reports, cost estimates, and accounting disclosures (FASB, IAS19, US GAAP).
- Ensure compliance with international pension regulations and standards.
- Prepare and review government filings such as IRS Form 5500, PBGC submissions, and Annual Funding Notices.
- Provide consulting support on plan design, funding strategies, and benefit calculations.
- Develop and present client-ready deliverables, including PowerPoint presentations and written reports.
- Utilize actuarial tools such as ProVal, Relius, and Excel-based models.
Client Engagement
Maintain regular communication with clients via email, calls, and meetings.Understand client needs and propose tailored actuarial solutions.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated services.Support account management and contribute to identifying new service opportunities.Team Leadership & Development
Mentor and supervise junior actuarial analysts.Review and ensure quality control of team deliverables.Participate in hiring, training, and performance feedback processes.Promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the team.Compliance & Professional Development
Stay current with regulatory changes and industry trends.Adhere to internal policies and compliance standards.Maintain accurate time tracking and contribute to billing processes.Progress toward actuarial certification (SOA, IFoA, or equivalent).About you
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Economics, Engineering, or related field.Master’s degree or international actuarial certification (SOA, IFoA) is a strong asset.Completion of preliminary actuarial exams (minimum 3 passed) required.Experience
5 to 10 years of actuarial experience, preferably in pensions, insurance, or consulting.Proven experience working with international clients and regulatory frameworks.Technical Skills
Advanced proficiency in Excel and actuarial software (ProVal, Relius).Strong understanding of pension funding, accounting standards, and compliance.Experience with OPEB / PRM plans is a plus.Soft Skills
