About The Organisation
General Surgeons Australia (GSA) is the professional body representing Specialist General Surgeons in Australia. As a non‑profit, fellowship‑based organisation, GSA exists to ensure the provision of high quality, comprehensive general surgical services to all Australians from emergency to planned procedures. GSA supports the profession through education, advocacy, research, audit, and specialist training initiatives. It works in collaboration with medical colleges, governments, and health stakeholders to position general surgery as a respected and sustainable career pathway, while advancing workforce planning and the highest standards of care.

About The Role
Reporting to the GSA Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for leading the strategic, governance, and advocacy functions of the organisation, ensuring alignment with GSA’s mission to promote excellence in surgical care, education, and workforce planning. The CEO works closely with the Board and the Deputy CEO / Director of Operations to deliver strategic priorities and support day‑to‑day operations. This includes oversight of key areas such as finance, HR, events, partnerships, and special projects, while actively contributing to stakeholder engagement and policy influence at both national and regional levels.
