A major company in the food sector is seeking a Picking Manager to support its operations based on the outskirts of Bogotá.
Role purpose
Responsible for supervising and optimizing the order preparation process through to final delivery to customers.
This role involves diagnosing customer operations with picking, developing strategies to coordinate the operations team, ensuring efficiency in product collection, verifying order quality and inventory accuracy, ensuring business profitability, and implementing strategies to reduce errors and improve delivery times within the supply chain.
The role also oversees all processes related to separating customer orders, ensuring that they meet Good Storage Practices (GSP) and the company’s established quality parameters. Additionally, this position ensures inventory accuracy and the achievement of established KPI goals.
Responsibilities
- Understand customer requirements and product specifications for operations involving picking.
- Identify the complexity of the operation in terms of picking type — by box, piece, package, or unit.
- Design a general and detailed strategy for receiving, storing, replenishing, bulk or individual order picking, and dispatching customer orders and products.
- Ensure that the installed capacity at the site meets the projected needs and requirements for each operation.
- Know the capacity, volume, and weight of each product, as well as the required number of staff and type and quantity of equipment needed to handle products within storage areas and staging zones.
- Analyze and optimize operational costs for picking, packing, and dispatch processes in assigned operations.
- Assign and classify order locations in the packing area according to delivery routes and special client requirements.
- Analyze warehouse workflows to identify inefficiencies and propose improvements in picking routes, warehouse layout, and the use of technology.
- Ensure full traceability of all products during picking and packing activities.
- Deliver the operational design and implementation strategies to the Operations Manager and Transportation Manager.
- Oversee execution during the first two weeks of operations, verifying productivity, processes, identifying deviations for correction, and spotting improvement opportunities.
- Generate reports for clients on any issues that prevent the picking of one or more products at the end of each picking shift.
- Ensure the team complies with proper storage standards.
- Identify potential major errors in product rotation.
- Develop and manage an action plan to reduce damage rates, while monitoring damage levels, causes, and responsible parties.
- Coordinate with the transportation area to design routes, set delivery schedules, create efficiency plans for distribution, and oversee the process through to final delivery.
- Review daily with the transportation team any discrepancies reported by clients, such as missing or extra items, and analyze reported product damage. Maintain updated statistical control of errors and resolve client complaints based on these findings.
- Monitor and control productivity, damage, and errors for each picker, creating statistical data to support management, training, and productivity bonus plans.
- Train and manage staff to ensure they stay up-to-date with picking processes, replenishment, and Good Storage Practices.
- Design and implement KPIs for each client based on operational requirements and complexity.
- Support compliance with company rules and procedures, involving stakeholders when deviations are detected.
- Meet defined strategic institutional and individual objectives.
- Follow up on audit observations and recommendations involving the area.
- Comply with the company’s safety and hygiene regulations.
- Perform other duties related to the role as needed.
